FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NATURE'S EYE: REFLECTIONS ON WATER AT WAG
Windham Art Gallery is pleased to present The Water Show, an
exhibition of work by five member-artists of the gallery. The
show includes work that focuses on different aspects of water
by Judy Hawkins, Barbara Mueller, Cary Nelson, Camilla Roberts,
and Susan Wadsworth. The Water Show opens on Friday, November
3, with a reception from 5-8 PM during Gallery Walk, and runs
through Sunday, November 26.
Whether lying flat in the background of a larger work by Cary
Nelson, or in a colorful, close-up reflection in a large photograph
by new member Barbara Mueller, water, often called “nature’s
eye” by artists who see in it a metaphor for their own
meditations on the landscape, is the cohesive element in this
exhibit. All five of these artists have brought their travels,
their individual perceptions and their unique interpretation
of water in the landscape to the varied work in this show.
Judy Hawkins’ oil paintings are abstracted landscapes
that reveal the sky as vivid patterns of color; Barbara Mueller’s
photographs are a window into the moods of the flowing rivers
she has explored by kayak. Camilla Roberts' paintings were
done on-site at the Thousand Islands and are full of sparkling
colors, reflections, and the sensual movement of water while
Susan Wadsworth’s pastels reveal the blue-green water
of Lake Superior, Yellowstone’s geyser pools, and the
lakes near her home in New Hampshire.
