10" x 10" Silent Auction: Second Year of Small Surprises

The Windham Art Gallery is pleased to be holding its second annual 10 x 10 Silent Auction and Festive Fundraiser in which each of the 25 artist-members of WAG have painted, or otherwise creatively altered, 10” x 10” canvases that will be on preview, both online and beginning during Gallery Walk on Friday, December 7 and continue each day throughout the week, 12-5 PM, and will culminate in an auction closing party on Saturday, December 15 from 6-8 PM. The party will include sumptuous hors d’oeuvres, a cash wine and beer bar, and the opportunity to take part in a celebratory, festive event, to purchase affordable art and to support WAG, the oldest, continuous cooperative gallery in New England.

Participants in the auction will find this year, as they did last, two dozen small and startingly delightful works of art, that include landscapes by Petria Mitchell, Tim Allen, Carolyn DiNicola-Fawley, Steven Meyer and Cary Nelson, abstract works by Marjorie Sayer, Leonard Ragouzeos and Carolyn Nelson, and images of crows, chickens, and hummingbirds by Caryn King, Robin Stronk and Lesley Heathcote, to name only a few. Many of the artists have commented that the 10 x 10 format allows them to express familiar subject matter in unexpected, new ways.

The success of last year's silent auction, which raised over $4000, helped the gallery to refresh its image, literally--with renovations that included a new floor--and in the eyes of the community, by allowing WAG to offer more free events and exhibits to the public, such as a Senior Art Show, Student Art Month and a collaborative exhibit of work by artists and writers.

In order to place bids, purchase of a $1 bookmark/bid number is necessary. Please stop by the gallery, call or e-mail for more information. The 10” x 10” Silent Auction is sponsored in part by Beverly Alberts, Brattleboro Food Co-Op, Brattleboro Savings & Loan, Beadniks, Chittenden Bank, C&S Wholesale Grocers, Lauren Henry Designs, Prompt Image, Tom & Sally’s Homemade Chocolates, Windham Flowers, Vermont Yankee, and Zephyr Designs.

There will also be an exhibition of Small Works by all gallery members that will be on display the entire month of December. From December 21-30, Marilyn Allen: Recent Work will be on exhibit in the front gallery.
