SENIOR
CENTER ARTISTS EXHIBIT THEIR WORK AT WAG

"Apple," by Lynn Martin
A
new exhibit of paintings by artists from the Senior Center,
organized by guest curator, Marilyn Allen, will be on display
from December 15-31 at the Windham Art Gallery with a special
reception on Friday, December 15, 2006, from 6-7:30 PM.
Featured in this show are paintings by Beverly Alberts, Jane
Clarke, Leah Coleman, Peggy Frost, Louise Frymann, Harriet
Gassett, Lynn Martin, Meris Morrison, Arlene Rec, Dorothy Riccardi,
Dodie Thomas, Mary Tyler, and Freda Wright. Some of the work
represents experiments in a new medium of oil paints for artists
who had experience with water-based media. Other artists came
with little or no arts background, but with curiosity or a
desire to paint.
Most of the works on display began during classes held weekly
at the Gibson Aiken Senior Center, taught by Marilyn Allen
of the River Gallery School. Students began with Sequencing,
a technique developed by Ric Campman, that allows a pleasurable
introduction to painting with a wax medium and your fingers
instead of paintbrushes. For many participants, the joy of
seeing colors float on small pieces of paper, which magically
transform into seascapes or landscapes, is the beginning of
a new adventure into making art. The work of these painters,
represented in this exhibit, offers a glimpse into the journey
of creative enterprise that can take place at any age. They
share their experiments and their vision with joy and humor
that is inspiring. They are pleased that Windham Art Gallery
has offered them this opportunity to share their work.
